Abstract

- In January 2018, all CPI cities in North Sumatra experienced inflation, namely Sibolga at 1.28 percent; Pematangsiantar of 0.54 percent; Medan by 0.71 percent; and Padangsidimpuan of 0.28 percent. Thus, North Sumatra in January 2018 experienced inflation of 0.69 percent.
- In January 2018, Medan inflation of 0.71 percent or an increase in index from 137.16 in December 2017 to 138.14 in January 2018. Inflation was due to price increases indicated by the rise in index of most expenditure groups, ie foodstuffs by 1.89 percent; finished food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group by 0,31 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.02 percent; health group at 1.45 percent; education, recreation and sports groups of 0.17 percent; and the transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.60 percent. Meanwhile, the group that experienced a decrease in index of clothing group by 0.09 percent.
- Major commodities contributed to inflation during January 2018 in Medan, including rice, red pepper, air transport, chicken meat, bloating, cayenne pepper, and potatoes.
- From 23 CPI cities in Sumatera Island 21 cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Bandar Lampung at 1.42 percent with CPI of 133.17 and the lowest occurring in Tanjung Pinang at 0.18 percent with CPI of 130.49.
