Abstract

  • In June 2018, all CPI cities in North Sumatra experienced inflation, namely Sibolga of 0.29 percent; Pematangsiantar of 0.10 percent; Medan by 0.01 percent; and Padangsidimpuan at 0.38 percent. Thus, North Sumatra in June 2018 experienced inflation of 0.04 percent.
  • In June 2017, inflation in Medan was 0.01 percent or an increase in index from 136.46 in May 2018 to 136.47 in June 2018. Inflation was due to an increase in prices indicated by the rise of the index of five expenditure groups, namely groups food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by 0.49 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.24 percent; clothing group by 0.67 percent; health group by 0.11 percent; and transportation, communication and financial services group 1.70 percent. Meanwhile, the group that experienced a decrease in the index, namely the foodstuff group by 2.04 percent. While the education, recreation, and sports groups did not experience any index changes.
  • The main commodities contributed to inflation during June 2018 in Medan, among others, air transport, fruit tomatoes, cayenne pepper, inter-city transportation, domestic servants wages, wet cakes, and eggs.
  • Out of 23 CPI cities in Sumatera Island, all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang at 1.82 percent with CPI of 140.44 and the lowest occurred in Medan and Pekanbaru by 0.01 percent with the CPI of 136.47 and 134.60, respectively.
