Abstract

  • Based on the results of Susenas data collection on March 2024, BPS-Statistics of Tapanuli Tengah Regency recorded that 11,80 percent of the population was lived in poverty. This has increased by 0,3 points if compared to conditions in March 2023.
  • This poverty figure is equivalent to 49,21 thousand people in March 2024, or an increase of around 2.120 people compared to March 2023.
  • The Poverty Line in March 2024 was recorded at Rp 527.227,- per capita per month, an increase of 7,65 percent compared to March 2023. This increase is above the average increase for North Sumatra which was 6,54 percent.
  • In the period March 2023 - March 2024, both the Poverty Depth Index (P1) and the Poverty Severity Index (P2) experienced a decline. P1 in March 2023 was 1,58 down to 1,33 in March 2024, while P2 in March 2023 was 0,31 down to 0,21 in March 2024.
  • The decrease in P1 indicates that there is a tendency to increase the average consumption expenditure of the poor who are able to keep up with the increase in the poverty line, or in other words the gap between the expenditure of the poor and the poverty line is decreasing. Furthermore, P2 provides an overview of the distribution of consumption expenditure among the poor - a decrease in this index indicates a reduction in inequality in consumption expenditure among the poor, or in other words the distribution of consumption is getting better or more even.
